What we believe has eternal consequences.

 John’s Gospel

In his Gospel, John mentions the name Jesus 245 times. That’s more than any other Gospel. John has a lot to say about Jesus. For example, John tells us that the Universe came into existence through Jesus when he writes that all things came into being through Him. (Jn 1:3) When Jesus came became a man and entered into human history, the people of the world, created through Him, did not recognize Him for who He is. The Jewish people would not receive Him.

Rejection

This rejection must have been especially humiliating for our Lord. Think about it. Jesus created us, comes among us, and what do we do? We throw Him away like a piece of garbage.

His response?

How does Jesus retaliate? John tells us, he writes, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.” Each man and woman has an opportunity while living on this earth. What is that opportunity? “For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.” (John 6:40)

Everyone that believes in Jesus will have eternal life! The Father will raise that believer up on the last day, this is the resurrection and a promise from God.

Conclusion

There is a question that many Christians have been considering as God’s word unfolds in this time of generational transition. The question is, do we believe the words spoken by Jesus Christ 2,000 years ago? And if so, how much do we believe them? It matters because what we believe has eternal consequences. Where do you stand on this issue? Does John 6:40 apply to you today?
