I Was Born With a Quick Temper: How to deal with it?

Does this sound like you?

Ever since I was a child, I’ve had the unfortunate experience of being born with a quick temper. It’s always been very difficult for me to control my emotions and express anger in healthy ways. As an adult, this has significantly impacted my relationships and overall mood.

Bad Habit

Your temper is one of your more valuable possessions. Don’t lose it.

A quick temper is a bad habit that is hard to break. It’s a difficult habit to change, because it’s rooted in an emotional, rather than a logical, response. The book of Proverbs tells us that a quick-tempered man acts foolishly, (we can all say amen to that.) Remember Jesus on the cross? He didn’t lose His temper, He forgave us instead. Jesus said, “Father forgive them; for they know not what they are doing.” Jesus remained in control even while He was being crucified. Think about it.

Conclusion

When people get mad, they can say and do things they don’t mean. It’s hard to control your anger and sometimes it feels like it’s controlling you. But there’s a solution: Jesus. He will help you with your quick-temper.

Here are four steps you can take that will help you.

  1. Realize that God has a purpose for you, salvation
  2. Realize that your problem is sin
  3. Realize that God’s provision for you is the savior. Jesus
  4. Your part? Surrender. Give Christ control of your life.
