Are You Living with Anxiety? Here’s How to Stay Grounded

You’re not alone if at this point you’re feeling like your anxiety is getting the best of you. Maybe you feel like it’s consuming your whole life, or maybe you just feel so overwhelmed by it that it is causing your quality of life to suffer. But there are things you can do to stay grounded and live a healthy, happy life.

What is anxiety?

Anxiety is a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease. It can be a general mood, or it can be triggered by a specific situation. It can be so strong that it interferes with daily activities. Individuals with anxiety will often have panic attacks, which is a sudden, intense, and totally unexpected feeling of fear or panic that can feel completely overwhelming.

The Many faces of Anxiety

Anxiety or worry can have many faces. Here are a few:

  • to be fretful or nervous
  • to be without peace of mind or confidence; to be worried.
  • to be anxious for or about something; to be upset or uneasy.
  • to be distracted with worry; to be preoccupied with worry; to be concerned with worry; to be edgy.
  • to be concerned or doubtful.
  • to be worried; to be agitated.
  • to be troubled by or concerned about something.

You Are Not Alone.

Anxiety is a constant companion for many people in this day and age. In fact, anxiety is the most common mental disorder in the United States with 40 million adults suffering from it annually. There are a variety of ways people can work on living more anxiety-free lives, but these three tips may be the most important ones to master.

The Bible Gives Us a strategy for Anxiety.

Consider the following questions and answers:

  • What does God say to us about worrying? He tells us not to worry. Phil. 4:6
  • What should we do instead of worrying? Tell Him about it in prayer. Phil. 4:6
  • What should we bring to God? Everything. Phil. 4:6
  • What attitude should we come with? Supplication and Thanksgiving: Phil. 4:6
  • What does God promise if we come to Him? Peace in our mind and hearts. Phil. 4:7 So what can we do?

The Battle Ground:

I’m fearful that my circumstance is impossible.

Our Lord says:

I can make all things possible.

“What is impossible with men is possible with God.” (Luke 18:27)

I’m worried that I’m not intelligent enough.

Our Lord says:

I will give you My wisdom.

“It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.” (1 Corinthians 1:30)

I feel anxiety over the cares of the world.

Our Lord says:

Cast all your anxiety on Me.

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

I’m overwhelmed with fear.

Our Lord says:

I will give you My strength when you’re afraid.

“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)

I’m so worried—I can’t forgive myself.

Our Lord says:

I can forgive you.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

I’m worried that my loved ones might leave me.

Our Lord says:

Once you’ve come to Me, I will never leave you.

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” (Deuteronomy 31:8)

I’m worried that I might die.

Our Lord says:

I will give you eternal life.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

I’m so worried that I can’t rest.

Our Lord says:

I will give you My rest.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28–30)

Conclusion :

Pray! Ask the Lord to help you live free from anxiety and worry.

Make time to talk to God regularly. Ask Him to help you keep a good attitude and to give you peace.
